Even When
Seven Places' "Even When"

WHY IT MADE THE LIST:
This is a song that keeps coming back to me almost every year. Whenever my commitment to the Lord is refreshed in some way, this son immeditely gets played. It's about making sure that I'm ALWAYS God's no matter what. Through joyful, glorious, or sorrowful times, my God is always supposed to be my number one focus! This song came out around 2004/05 and has always kept me making sure that I give Him my ALL (It's the least that I could do.)
Lyrics:
This week, I prayed, one time
My phone, it rang, I put You on the other line
And now my thoughts they drift around
My knees remain unacquainted with the ground
Unless my faith is put to the test and I am forced to bow
Although I'm in this flesh it doesn't mean You shouldn't have the best
from me, from me
[Chorus:]
Even when my eyes are dry
even when my soul is tired
even when my hands are heavy, I will lift them up to Yu
It's not about how I feel, oh Lord I am here for Yu
I exist for you
I close my eyes but all I see
Is a background of black, bouncy squiggly lines
And this week's mistakes coming back to mind but
I will lift my voice and make a joyful sound
Forget about me, I only get me down
Although I cannot see it doesn't mean I shouldn't sing to You, to You
[Chorus]
You've given me Your life and have held mine together yet I find
Excuses to slouch in my pew
But when glory divine
Is sitting in my very presence, the least that I can do
Is give my all to You, give my all to You

First Train Home
Imogen Heap's "First Train Home"

WHY IT MADE THE LIST: (And so quickly!)
Imogen Heap has been twittering about the creation of this album for
a very long time and has been keeping everyone's mouth watering for an
Ellipse.I finally got to hear the album tonight and this is the first song that I
heard and I immediately fell in love with it. You can stream the
entire album here.
Lyrics:
(I've got to get on it) (3x)
Bodies disengaged, our mouths are fleshing over.
It's just an echo game, irises retreating
to ovals of white.
The urge to feel your face
And blood rushing to paint my handprint
A Frisbee one by one
Your vinyl on lamanent
Desperate for some kind of contact.
First train home, I've got to get on it (3x)
To Catch, to catch, catch catch catch.
First train home, I've got to get on it (3x)
First Train home
Temporal deadzone where clocks are barely breathing
Yet no one cares to notice for all the yelling
All night clamor to hold it together.
I want to play don't wait forms in the hideaway
I want to get on with getting on with things
I want to run in fields, paint the kitchen
And love someone
And I can't do any of that here, can I?
First train home, I've got to get on it (3x)
First Train home
So what? You've had one too many.
So what? I'm not that much fun to be with
So what? You've come silly hatter
So what? I didn't want to come here, anyway.
What matters you, doesn't matter, matter to me.
What matters to me, doesn't matter, matter to you.
What matters to you, doesn't matter, matter to them.
What matters to them, doesn't change anything.
Got to get on it first train home.
Got to get on it first train home
First train home I've got to get on it
(I've got to get on it)
To catch, to catch, catch-catch, catch.
(First train home)
First train home I've got to get on it
First train home.
(First train home)
To go, to go, to go
Get, get, get, get
Out, out, out, out
Now, now, now, now
Bodies disengaged, our mouths are fleshing over.
It's just an echo game, irises retreating
to ovals of white.
The urge to feel your face

Bulletproof
La Roux "Bulletproof"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOYufRHQSms
That's all I could find for it...mainly b/c I gave up trying to find anything else.
But you should check it out! It's random and weird and the lead singer likes to wear smoking jackets and she has the thickest accent ever!
It made the list because it puts you back in the 80's but in a co0l way rather than an ashamed way =) This one is for shear entertainment. To be completely honest I could careless about the lyrics. I just like the fact her sound is fun and strange!

BOOM
Anjulie's "Boom"

WHY IT MADE THE LIST:
A friend of Madame Cymbeline referred this song to her, who, in turn, referred it to me and I quickly fell in love with the music that this woman makes. It's jazzy yet soulful, and I give props to someone who can sing "Boom Shakalaka" with style. It reminds me a little of Amy Winehouse but with an middle eastern flavor to it. (She's actually Canadian believe it or not...) The lyrics speak of encountering someone with whom one knows is not supposed to be getting involved, but just can't help doing it anyway. Its sultry brass and percussion tones make me want to listen to it again and again. Here's the great video that accompanies the song that's definitly worth a taking a look.
Lyrics:
I'm getting myself in something I don't wanna
I'm getting caught up in him but I don't wanna
I'm getting off track
And I can't control a thing, a thing...
I'm telling myself it's not a good idea
But the more I hesitate the more I fall for him
I'm tryin' to erase his face from my memory
And then a
Boom
Shalaka
He's walkin' upa to me
Boom
Shalaka
He start's ta talka to me
Boom
Shalaka
My heart skips a
Boom
Shalaka laka
Boom boom
The more I hang there the more I get wrapped up in him
Imagine myself in the chair I was sittin' in
And every little thing he said comin' back to me
To me
The more I get scared of loosin' I'm afaid to say
Where can I go at the same time it excites me
Gotta get him outta my head
Get on with me
And then a
Boom
Shalaka
He's walkin' upa to me
Boom
Shalaka
He start's ta talka to me
Boom
Shalaka
My heart skips a

Shalaka laka
Boom boom
Boom
Shalaka
Eyes come in contact a
Boom
Shalaka
Starin' me down talk a
Boom shalaka
My heart skips a
Boom
Shalaka laka
Ah
He make my head go
Boom boom
He make my breath go
Shaka laka
Wherever I go
Boom boom
And everything goes
Shaka laka
I tell myself
No, I'm not gonna do this
I promise myself
No, I'm not gonna do this
Doesn't matter what he says
I know he's no good for me
No no no no

Consequence
The Notwist's "Consequence"

WHY IT MADE THE LIST:
I originally heard this song while watching the movie Push and thinking, "I kind of like that song! I should find it!" So after a little research, I happily found it! The gentle beat of the drum and the beautiful guitar arrangement seem to regulate any movement that I might be making at the time to fit into the song. It's a nice relaxing song with a dreamlike quality that flits through the mind and enters all corners and drowns out everything else. (Well, that's what usually happens when I listen to it... results may vary...) I'll be honest, the meaning of the lyrics escapes me, but the music and voice are so mesmerizing that I had to add it to the list.
Lyrics:
You're the color
You're the movement
And the spin
Never
Could it stay with me
The whole day long
Fail with consequence
Lose with eloquence
And smile
I'm not in this movie
I'm not in this song
Never
Leave me paralyzed, love
Leave me hypnotized, love
You're the color
You're the movement
And the spin
Never
Could it stay with me
The whole day long
Fail with consequence
Lose with eloquence
And smile
You're not in this movie
You're not in this song
Never
Leave me paralyzed, love
Leave me hypnotized, love
You're the movement
And the spin
Never
Could it stay with me
The whole day long
Fail with consequence
Lose with eloquence
And smile
I'm not in this movie
I'm not in this song
Never
Leave me paralyzed, love
Leave me hypnotized, love
You're the color
You're the movement
And the spin
Never
Could it stay with me
The whole day long
Fail with consequence
Lose with eloquence
And smile
You're not in this movie
You're not in this song
Never
Leave me paralyzed, love
Leave me hypnotized, love

Her Morning Elegance
Oren Lavie's "Her Morning Elegance"
WHY IT MADE THE LIST:This song made it to the list, first off due to the fantastic video that they put together for it. The second reasonis the thoughtful lyrics and swaying voice that sings them.To me,(and I can say this because it's my blog...) the songspeaks about a woman, unknown and ordinary, who seems to be going through a stint ofdepression. But life carries on, thus the beatbehind the sadness.
Lyrics :
Sun been down for days
A pretty flower in a vase
A slipper by the fireplace
A cello lying in its case
Soon she's down the stairs
Her morning elegance she wears
The sound of water makes her dream
Awoken by a cloud of steam
She pours a daydream in a cup
A spoon of sugar sweetens up
And She fights for her life
As she puts on her coat
And she fights for her life on the train
She looks at the rain
As it pours
And she fights for her life
As she goes in a store
With a thought she has caught
By a thread
She pays for the bread
And She goes...
Nobody knows
Sun been down for days
A winter melody she plays
The thunder makes her contemplate
She hears a noise behind the gate
Perhaps a letter with a dove
Perhaps a stranger she could love
And She fights for her life
As she puts on her coat
And she fights for her life on the train
She looks at the rain
As it pours
And she fights for her life
As she goes in a store
With a thought she has caught
By a thread
She pays for the bread
And She goes...
Nobody knows
And She fights for her life
As she puts on her coat
And she fights for her life on the train
She looks at the rain
As it pours
And she fights for her life
Where people are pleasently strange
And counting the change
And She goes...
Nobody knows

Beautiful Ending
BarlowGirl "Beautiful Ending"
WHY IT MADE THE LIST:
Basically, this is my fear, my prayer and the exact place I hope to be. This one is personal and I hope it touches someone else like it did me.
Lyrics--
Oh, tragedy
Has taken so many
Love lost cause they all
Forgot who You were
And it scares me to think
That I would choose
My life over You
My selfish heart
Divides me from You
It tears us apart
So tell me
What is our ending?
Will it be beautiful
So beautiful?
Oh, why do I
Let myself let go
Of hands that painted the stars
And hold tears that fall?
And the pride of my heart
Makes me forget
It's not me but You
Who makes the heart beat
I'm lost without You
And dying from me
So tell me
What is our ending?
Will it be beautiful
So beautiful?
Will my life
Find me by Your side?
Your love is beautiful
So beautiful
At the end of it all
I wanna be in Your arms
At the end of it all
I wanna be in Your arms
At the end of it all
I wanna be in Your arms
At the end of it all
I wanna be in Your arms
So tell me

(PG-13 Lyrics)
(PG-13 Lyrics)The video embedder has been disabled,
but here's the link.
WHY IT MADE THE LIST:
This song can appeal to many people. Ever have that ex who has
"moved on" but still wants to be "friends" even though you
KNOW they just want to jerk you around and don't REALLY
care how you've been? The music is exactly the way I like
it--a sarcastic, angry, rock song that you can dance to!
Lyrics:
Quit acting so friendly.
Don't nod don't laugh all nicely.
Don't think you'll up-end me.
Don't sigh, don't sip your iced-tea.
And don't say, "It's been a while..."
And don't flash that stupid smile.
Don't ask me how I've been.
Don't think I've forgotten,
you never liked that necklace.
So cordial, so rotten...
Kiss, kiss, let's meet for breakfast.
Don't show up so on-time
and don't act like you're so kind
Don't ask me how I've been.
Don't sit there and play just
so frank, so straight, so candid,
so thoughtful, so gracious,
so sound, so even-handed.
Don't be so damn benign
and don't waste my (.......) time.
Don't ask me how I've been.

Kiss, kiss, let's meet for breakfast.

Eet
Regina Spektor's "Eet"
WHY IT MADE THE LIST:
I chose this song because the lyrics speak about how
hard it can be to get back on your feet after a tragedy.
"Eet" is referring to the attempt to slide back into
one's regular beat in life.
Lyrics:
It’s like forgetting the words to your favorite song
You can’t believe it
You were always singing along
It was so easy and the words so sweet
You can’t remember
You try to feel the beat
Eet, eet, eet, eet
Eet, eet, eet, eet
You spent half of your life trying to fall behind
You’re using your headphones to drown out your mind
It was so easy, and the words so sweet
You can’t remember
You try to move your feet
Eet, eet, eet, eet
Eet, eet, eet, eet
Someone’s deciding whether or not to steal
He opens the window just to feel the chill
He hears that outside a small boy just starting to cry
‘Cause it’s his turn but his brother won’t let him try
It’s like forgetting the words to your favorite song
You can’t believe it
You were always singing along
It was so easy and the words so sweet
You can’t remember
You try to move your feet
It was so easy and the words so sweet
You can’t remember, you try to feel the beat
You were always singing along
It was so easy and the words so sweet
You can’t remember
You try to feel the beat
Eet, eet, eet, eet
Eet, eet, eet, eet
You spent half of your life trying to fall behind
You’re using your headphones to drown out your mind
It was so easy, and the words so sweet
You can’t remember
You try to move your feet
Eet, eet, eet, eet
Eet, eet, eet, eet

About Me
About Us
What is music without words?
Even those songs that leave us with nothing but different sounds, they still paint a picture in our minds and hearts, leaving behind a legacy, a story
once heard. An impression is made and there's no going back
Dj Dostoy believed in a man's words and felt for his stories
so he chose to stand behind his name, Dostoyevsky. His words portrayed human nature and emotion in both suffering and joy. Lyrics and music in songs also strive to portray these elements of life.
For Madame Cymbeline, music is an expression of something deeper and
something felt but not always readily understood.
She chose a name that came from a man who created something deeper
and full of passion and which is commonly misunderstood, Shakespheare.
What we like most about music is that it is not always what it seems. To one person a song could mean something entirely different than it does to the person standing beside them. Music is abut life and a reaction to living that life. Perhaps a chance to let go and be free to feel something different or a time to reflect on the past while looking ahead to the future.
This can be done through rock, pop, classical, indie, broadway musical, and all kinds of genres. All of which will probably make it on here.
This is our music.
Enjoy,
DJ Dostoy and Madam Cybeline
